Variants

Work with product groups and variants

A product group holds the options a product varies by. A variant is one valid combination of them.

Updated 27 August 2026

A product group carries the options a product varies by: size, colour, finish. A variant is one combination of those options with its own price.

Add a variant

  1. Open the product.
  2. Click Add variant. The modal offers combinations built from the product group’s options.
  3. Pick the combination and save.

The modal blocks a combination that already exists on that product, so you cannot create the same variant twice.

A combination that already exists is refused here, before it can reach the shop.

Price is edited in place

Variant price is an inline field: change it in the list and it saves without opening anything. If the product is linked to a shop, the new price is pushed on save.

Creating a product from an item

An item with no product yet has a Create product button on its edit screen. One click builds the product from the item’s name and price, attaches its product group, and links the two. Pressing it twice is safe: it reports that a product already exists rather than making a second one.

What to reuse

Troubleshooting

The combination I need is not offered

It already exists on this product. Find the existing variant rather than adding a duplicate.

A variant exists here but not in the shop

Variants without a shop id are local until they are pushed. A push that failed leaves the variant without an id, so it is still local and can be pushed again.
