Create an item group

An item group is a shelf plus the shape of what goes on it. Create the group first, then its fields.

Updated 27 August 2026

Everything in the catalogue sits in an item group. The group holds the items and defines the fields they have.

Create it

  1. Open the project.
  2. Click New item group and name it after what it will hold, Fabrics, Legs, Sofas.
  3. Save, then add its fields.

One group per kind of thing

A group is a shape, not a folder. Fabrics and legs belong in separate groups because they are described by different fields, even if they end up on the same sofa.

Once two kinds of thing share a group, every item carries every field, and half of them stay empty.

What to reuse

Troubleshooting

I cannot see the group in another project

Groups belong to one project. Copying a whole structure into a new project is a separate operation: duplicate the project rather than rebuilding it by hand.

Two groups hold nearly the same thing

That usually means one field distinguishes them and it should be a List field inside a single group instead. Merging is manual, so it is worth deciding early.

If they can't see it, they won't buy it. Let's show them.
